SZCZAWNICA – ŁĄCKO TRAIL

Szczawnica – Bereśnik – Dzwonkówka – Błyszcz – Koziarz – Łącko

This yellow hiking trail starts at Szafranówka in Szczawnica (Pieniny), leads north through the Beskid Sądecki Mountains and ends at Modyń (Beskid Wyspowy). The route takes about 7 hours. We walk from the center of Szczawnica, towards Park Górny. It is worth looking around, because we will be accompanied by objects dating back to the end of the 19th century, numerous mineral water springs (there are also public ones) and many boards with interesting facts. Many famous people are associated with the city. Among them: Józef Stefan Szalay, Dr. Józef Dietl and Adam Count Stadnicki. Nowadays it is a charming health resort. It is worth exploring them with local guides. Our trail traverses Mount Bryjarka, which is one of the few hills in the Polish Carpathians that is made of andesite (a rock of volcanic origin). After about an hour of walking and walking about 200 m from the trail, we will reach the only PTTK shelter on our route "Pod Bereśników".** We will see a view of the Małe Pieniny Mountains, the Pieniny Mountains and the Tatra Mountains. It is worth visiting this shelter and commemorating your stay and putting a stamp in the book.

View from the Yellow Trail to the Tatra Mountains

View Szlak Koziarz Dzwonkowka4Perhaps not everyone knows that apart from the well-known GOT PTTK badge (we will receive 23 points for this route), stamps can also be collected for: badges: "Edwarda Moskała's Bacówka" (verification: Waldek, Gazda Bacówki PTTK Jaworzec, Wetlina) and Mountain shelters (Tomasz Biesik - collected for your own satisfaction). We pass several "yellow" signposts and after a while our path will lead through a mixed beech and spruce forest... and such Beskid scenery will lead us, after another 2 hours, to Dzwonkówka. This name appears on the lips of those who travel the Main Beskid Trail (GSB). Its red marking like a magnet attracts those who want to walk over 500 km of the Polish Carpathians from Ustroń to Wołosate. Dzwonkówka is the first significant culmination of the GSB in the Beskid Sądecki Mountains (looking from the east). Our route is south/north, so we'll leave the GSB exploration for another trip. Observe the yellow markings, the route in this section is typically ridge-type. We will overcome small hills several times, which will compensate for the beautiful views. Soon, on the left side, we will be equal to the Pusta Wielka Reserve.** The name of this reserve is the exam chochlik.

The mountain called Pusta Wielka is located in the Jaworzyna Krynicka Range, but the reserve is in the Radziejowa Range. Walking along the human settlements, we will also reach Błyszcz (944). The name Błyszcz is more often used, on the Dunajec River in Tylmanowa. This is a very important place for retreat meetings of the "Light-Life" Movement, initiated by priest Franciszek Blachnicki in Krościenko nad Dunajcem. For one of such meetings on August 16, 1972. priest came Karol Wojtyła. In 2000, a field altar was built, which serves not only the local community, but also pilgrim tourists. The final attraction of this trail is the observation tower in Koziarz. It is one of 4 structures of this type (Magurki, Lubań, Gorc) built on the initiative of the Commune Office in Ochotnica Dolna. Their viewing crowns protrude much above the tree crowns. So you can admire the surrounding view of the Beskids, Tatra Mountains and Podtatra Mountains. During this hike, you can also start trying to obtain the "Conqueror of the 4 Towers" badge. Before setting out on the trail, it is worth downloading a folder for collecting stamps from the Office's website.

Admiring the views not only from the level of the spruce cones, but also continuing the trip later, we will soon see the buildings of Łącko below. We will cross the Dunajec River via a bicycle footbridge and the trail will lead us to the market square in Łącko. Among the city's curiosities (apart from the famous high-proof alcohol), it is worth visiting the parish church, where the roof was renovated by RDOŚ Kraków in the winter of 2020/2021. This is one of the most visible ways of actively protecting bats. Until the next meeting in the Land of the Horseshoe Tree. Zuzanna Długosz – Beskid guide.
